WELCOME TO LIZ CHARNEY CREATIVE

About Me

I am a Missouri native and love the Midwest dearly. My husband and I have also been lucky enough to call Alaska, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado, and now Tennessee home! I love turquoise, wildflowers, mountains, and a good horchata. When I'm not crafting in the studio, you're likely to find me playing with our 2 little girls or chasing around our sweet Australian Shepherd, Skye. My other loves include Jesus, antiquing, reading, baking, and spending time with family and friends.

My Creative Story

My Grandma and Grandpa always had this deep, constant appreciation of wildlife, plants, and the seasons of the Earth. They passed that appreciation on to their grandkids and now that love for wild things and the natural world has turned into my inspiration for paintings and quilts.

Quilting

I made my first quilt with Grandma Peggy when I was 9 or 10 years old. I vividly remember walking through the fabric aisles at Walmart and selecting prints for a rail fence patterned quilt. She did most of the work, but the seed was planted in my heart. Twenty years later, pregnant with our oldest daughter, I felt the need to make something and tackled my first solo quilt. That was in 2018, and I've been quilting ever since.

Soft Pastels

These little sticks of pigment are relatively new to me. I stumbled across a course on soft pastels via The Crafters Box in 2022 and have enjoyed painting with them for the past year and a half. Pastels are a little bit magical. The layers and colors are so unique and capture the whimsical feeling I want to relay in a landscape painting. I am excited to lean more into this medium in the coming year.
